Edgar Retro's vintage

Spotted on the streets of Vienna by Stockholm Street Style photographer Daniel Troyse, 19-year-old DJ Edgar Retro wears vintage fur, pants, and shoes, together with his American Apparel shirt and gold necklace. The footwear is a period version of these newer Lanvins featured on Jak & Jil. (I wrote something before on a shot by Scott Schuman featuring a variation.)



Yes, I think that's a Chanel logo drawn on his tank, shown clearer in another ensemble.



One may say that Edgar's style borders on bad taste. But because these looks go so well with him (with his hair, attitude, and lean and mean face), they become his own style.

Bullets and roses

Unbelievably sharp and ignorant barbs exchanged over the issue of that installation "Politeismo" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Good thing, though, that it has generated much discussion and debate, even if, initially, most veins are misguided.









Old issue, I know, but what concerns me more, really, is the awakening of our aesthetics. Not necessarily to something that has to be "global", whatever that tired and dirty word means.



Would you believe that my entire Sacre collection from my Bosquejo line of accessories is based on what's available in Quiapo?









Once we have gotten over our holy battles (from art exhibitions to McDonald's commercials), or actually, once we begin to view them with new eyes, then maybe we can see what battles our art should be waging, and with which weapons.











Close your eyes, laugh, pray, cry. Gnash your teeth. But do something.



The twelve repurposed bullets in this necklace represent the twelve rays of the sun that are usually found emanating from Our Lady. The force of prayer?









This sheer mesh shirt is still a little itchy, though strangely, my body reacts with more heat. Isn't it the same with pet peeves, with advocacies, with our late night battles with demons that are fought on the canvas and on the page?

A cameo! This must mean that I actually have some spare time in my hands, albeit between floors of my office building. So this is my new haircut, just growing out the black. Now am not so sure I want to color it light gray... What do you think?









More time to blog, to revisit the gym, to read, and to just be quiet. Do you hear that? I hear something beating...

Quick Friday snap

These semi-blurred pictures were not planned. As I was rushing from work, I suddenly thought of asking a stranger at an underpass to take a few clicks. I realize now that I really must love the euphoria of being fully occupied, of running from one thing to the other, of crossing out To Do items in a packed list.




But as in these pictures, no one can see clearly behind the blur, or in this case, through my grandmother knit. It is a miracle that I can still hang on to the only thing I know that truly makes me happy. And that cannot be hurried. But for now, I must go.
