Martin Margiela Bracelet Buckle, £79.
Thick brown leather cuff with an oversized brass buckle fastening. Measures approx 8" on it’s largest fastening, 7" on its smallest.

If ties have found themselves as belts, belts, for their part, seem more candid reduced into bracelets.

Martin Margiela Ring Chain, £119.
Brass ring coated in silver - half made of a bike chain link detail. A size M is about 2.5" inside

Now this ring I find amazing. Who would have thought bicycle chains would look so good around your finger?

Martin Margiela Bracelet Military, £79.
Grey suede riveted cuff with cut out details and a pressed stud fastening. Measures 1.5" wide and 9.5" round.

I don't know if it was intentional, but these suede cuffs look like dominoes.

Right: Martin Margiela Bracelet Scales, £119.

And even more interesting items.

Left: Martin Margiela Ring Arrow, £79.

Right: Martin Margiela Ring Anniversary, starting from £225.
Chunky silver anniversary ring with a diamond in the centre. Embossed with 1988 – 2008 – great collectors piece marking Margiela’s 20th birthday. A size M is about 2.5" inside.

Left: Martin Margiela Ring Nail, £69.
Brass flat head nail with a polished silver coating, wrapped round to make a ring. A medium measures about 2.5" inside.

Right: Martin Margiela Ring Scratched, £89.
Chunky brass ring coated in silver. Half is smooth metal and the other half is textured and uneven. A medium measures about 2.5" inside.

The famous (and now sold out) nail bracelet is now in ring form. The ring on the right looks delightfully peculiar. The shape reminds you of old bones, or even teeth.

In a word, I want all of them, but if I had to choose one, it would have to be the bike chain ring.

Three silver rings from Maison Martin Margiela

Martin Margiela silver ring 01a

I know I've ranted before how things have deteriorated ever since Martin Margiela, designer and founder, left Maison Martin Margiela, the fashion house. But that doesn't mean that the very capable design team cannot produce top-of-the-line items, like these impeccable silver rings.

This first one is an aged silver signet that has an intentionally imperfect surface, as if it has been bumped and bruised by harder objects.

Martin Margiela silver ring 01b

The slightly distended shape of the signet appeals to me since my fingers are narrow and my joints protrude in the same way.

Martin Margiela silver ring 01c

It peaks out from its box like a pearl. In my opinion, it's not any less precious.

Martin Margiela silver ring 02a

This second ring, chunky and with a smooth rectangular surface, comes in the conventional signet shape, makes the appeal of the set evident. I love the absence of stones or any decoration.

Martin Margiela silver ring 02b

I imagine anyone wearing the rings to literally wield a potent flash of silver.

Martin Margiela silver ring 02c

Without any light shining on it, I imagine this ring to be unnoticeable with a gray outfit. But once the wearer moves, the flat surface would flicker like a cat's eye.

Martin Margiela silver ring 03a

This third ring, a darker version of the one above, reminds me of black mirrors.

Martin Margiela silver ring 03b

A mystery, a secret band of membership.

Martin Margiela silver ring 03c

One would imagine a secret button inside the ring that would slowly and effectively activate something dark and sinister.

Kinekt gear ring

Kinekt gear ring

Geeks like me will be happy with this accessory cum play thing cum stress reliever.

Kinekt gear ring 02

The Gear ring, designed by Glen Liberman, is made from high quality matte stainless steel. This ring can be your interactive pastime. Instead of maltreating your stress ball, why not turn any of the two rims that move in unison as the gears pass through their jagged teeth. (Sound geeky enough?)

Just don't expect to be transported to Oz, for some masked hero to suddenly appear, or for all of your work to be suddenly finished right before your eyes.

Kinekt gear ring 03

Currently comes in these US ring sizes: 9, 10, 11, and 12 (5, 6, 7, 8, and 13 to follow. Lifetime warranty.

Rings in raw concrete

Concrete rings 01

Speaking of urban nomads, cement is one thing often blamed for making cities bland and dreary. Though I've seen it used very ingeniously for interiors (I would use it myself as panels or accents for my future home), I've never seen concrete in jewelry as satisfying as these rings from a collaboration between Beat Poët menswear and 22designstudio.

Concrete rings 02

The rings come in two shades of gray and have built-in stainless steel.

Concrete rings 03

Do you notice the difference between the three models?

Concrete rings 04

But before that, what makes these digit holders doubly appealing are the perforations meant to suggest construction work. Gives the rings a totally different vibe, reminding me of knuckle pieces.

Concrete rings 05

Back to raw earth, back to the silhouettes.

Concrete rings 06

First is the Ando model, which is simply circular. Reminds me of city transmission lines.

Concrete rings 07

Named "Brutalism", these pieces are meant to be stained red.

Concrete rings 08

The more peacefully sounding Tatami rings remind me, of course, of tatami mats used in Japanese homes. From cement to fiber!

Concrete rings 09

Interesting to make concrete a prized material. But for its sheer material flexibility and aesthetic possibilities (as these rings show), it may well deserve its own place on velvet.

There are other interesting versions of these cornet rings (without holes) on the 22designstudio website.

From the Beat Poët page:
These rings are based on the brutalist ideas of of architects such as Louis Kahn and the concrete architecture of Japanese architect Tadao Ando. His work is characterized by simple geometry and an almost exclusive use of concrete, with the formwork holes left intact.

The concrete, imperfect and raw like a man-made contribution to the natural environment, ages gracefully in a
wabi-sabi manner, making visible the invisible logic of nature.

Martin Margiela 5pc ring set

MMM 5pc ring set 01

I don't think it's been suggested or meant by the maison, but I think this 5-piece ring set by Maison Martin Margiela would be good worn as a stack on one finger, and it need not be the bad one.

MMM 5pc ring set 02

It is meant to be worn on all five digits like a knuckle ring for thugs.

MMM 5pc ring set 03

Somehow this reminds me of geeky puzzles we had when we were kids: a kit of bent nails in the shape of triangles and circles etc etc that you had to configure in a certain way … I really cannot remember. The shapes I think come like paperclips linked to each other and the aim is to untangle them from each other … Oh I give up! Can you recall?

MMM 5pc ring set 04

Whatever it is, seeing the rings like this, I am tempted to attach a chain at both ends and wear this as a bracelet.
