My latest fix: Gray sneaks

By now it may be evident that the color is a staple in my wardrobe. Here it is worn with purple, and to me one of purple's best compliments - dark brown.
I know it's summer and it seems odd to be wearing corduroy, but I really like its texture and how it contrasts well with cotton shirts. It also looks great with my new leather filigree belt.

What I also like about the sneakers is that the laces are long enough to be tied around the shoes and can be kept in place by these patches.

My latest fix: Electromagnetic Tentacle tees, part I

Finally the rain has stopped. Hope the sun decides to come out today. But before that, here is a quick post of what I wore yesterday.
Had myself a good laugh when I first saw the cartoon spoof tees by Manila-based Electromagnetic Tentacle. The t-shirt here depicts Lion-O, the leader of the ThunderCats.

But instead of wielding a sword, he is holding up a long spoon used to serve taho, one of my favorite local snacks made of soft tofu, brown sugar, vanilla syrup, and pearl sago. Does anybody remember what the real Lion-O shouts when he is in battle?
Can't wait to show you the other designs I bought! Happy (hopefully dry) Saturday!

My latest fix: Authentic navy espadrilles

It's been months seen I've wanted to buy espadrilles, but I just wasn't satisfied with the quality or the feel of the products being sold here. I think this purchase from Aldevinco in Davao City, in the country's southern region, is worth the wait.

Nothing that I've seen here has the same combination of rope (I hope it's jute) and rubber, and though this pair may be less durable than what's available at Zara or similar retail chains, I would prefer these since they're closer to the traditional articles.
I presume cosido a mano calidad artesania means "hand-sewn, quality craftsmanship". My Spanish-speaking readers are free to correct me.

I suppose this pair was made in Spain and just brought to Davao. If so, they would indeed be closer to the espadrilles worn in Catalonia from way back in the 14th century (so says Wiki). In any case, the feel of authenticity always adds to the experience — besides the fact that walking on rubber and rope is more comfortable than it looks.

I've read about the difficulty with finding the right size for espadrilles. Since they are made from fabric, one is told to get something that fits smaller than snug to allow for the material to stretch. This has become a dilemma for my long-distance purchase. My mom had a size 37, but my toes were already half-folded, so I got a 38, which turns out a little loose, at least for one shoe.
I guess I will have to see. Won't be much of a problem since I have relatives in the south and the pair only cost me PhP650 (around US$13). What's more, I'm still thinking if I'll also get a black and/or brown pair.
I wore them out yesterday on another thrift shopping trip. Will tell you all about it tomorrow.
My latest fix: Gray multi-patterned cardigan

Before I tell you about the Benetton shoot at the Industria studio at Washington Street, I'll tell you about what I did after that.
Friday afternoon, Jamie and I rode the subway to Soho, where I was overjoyed to see the Rogan shop, which had great cardigans on sale. But alas, none were calling out my name. Would have wanted to scout the area — not to mention watch the stylish people — for other favorites such as John Varvatos, Jack Spade, etc., but with the limited time at hand, I agreed to immediately proceed to Broadway's Topman, H&M, J. Crew, and Forever 21 for Jamie.
This Topman cardigan is what I ended up with. The store had lots of blazers I coveted, but none fit well (when they fit the shoulders, they were too long or I couldn't close the buttons…). Was also disappointed when my size was out for H&M's seersucker jackets. Not that I didn't totally love what I got. With more and more threads of my "houndstooth" Sisley jacket going loose, this was a timely purchase. Notice how it camouflages against my sheets? Maybe I'll find a shirt with a similar pattern to go wit it.
(Oh, it was also my first time to enter a Victoria's Secret store. As I waited for Jamie, I remembered getting lost in rack upon rack of lingerie as a kid waiting for my mom.)
My latest fix: Electromagnetic Tentacle tees, part III

What I wore yesterday, plus what I was also reading and what I bought at PowerBooks.

I don't really play Angry Birds on my iPhone or iPad. Maybe since I gave up on my first sitting. Well at least I have this Electromagnetic Tentacle shirt, which shows them in a cockfight (the button of my jacket looks like the scene's moon).

Two bracelets that I wore, one made of faux leather and the other of plastic and stones.
Maybe I should start labelling these posts "What's on my bed", like my "What's in my bag" series. Not "who", mind you.

Books! Brought along my newer copy of Yasunari Kawabata's The Old Capital (I lost my first copy in New York.) Thought I could read while waiting in line at Eiga Sai (Japanese film festival, pass good for two, *hint hint*) but of course realized that Kawabata really does require quiet reading, maybe unlike his compatriot Kenzaburo Oe. The Baudelaire I found with other poetry books I haven't seen in other bookstores, discreetly hidden at one of the back shelves.
