Two pattern-print sneakers, crocheted sandals, and rose-print slippers made of hair

Two Percent sneakers 01

It was raining last Sunday. As usual, my espadrilles were caught unaware. Coming from Quezon City, I decided to visit just one thrift shop in Anonas, and though my hemp and rubber (what's left of them) soles were wet and squishy, I found not one, not two, but four new-old pairs.

Two Percent sneakers 02

The pattern on these Two Percent Homme mid-cut sneakers may well represent the wave upon wave of floodwater in Manila. Of course they could also be scales.

Or hills with scarce grass, blue with nostalgia.

There was also another printed pair, in the same color but not hue.

Converse All Stars 02

These Converse All Stars were covered in cornflowers (since they're blue, not yellow). I like the dark navy.

The print is now one of my happy thoughts, right beside Garfield and Friends.

Ronsports 01

I could easily have gone home after spotting the two sneakers, but persistence led me to this: a pair of Ronsports sandals (made in Spain) with something that looks crocheted. Not sure if these were for girls or guys, but I didn't care once I was able to put them on.

Ronsports 02

The material follows the contours of your feet.

My foot hammocks!

Cactus Cactus 01

Then, just as I thought things couldn't get any better, I spied upon these wild things.

Cactus Cactus 02

Cat-like creatures with shiny hair and rose and leaf patterns instead of spots.

Cactus Cactus 03

Instinctively, I moved away from them, not in fear, but to gauge them from afar.

Cactus Cactus 04

Again, it was only when I wore them that I was convinced that I had to have them. Against my skin, they seem to almost purr.

Cactus Cactus 05

They have furrows like eyebrows. I still have to think what I will wear them with, but that can wait.

Thrift quartet 01

Together, my thrift shoe quartet sang in chorus in my room. An unlikely group if there was any.

Most certainly, another unexpected thrift shoe experience. (Though there was also a jacket, but for that, as for so many other things, there is next time...)

Band-aids, Ballys, Belgian chocolate, and mochi

IMG_6984

I swear, this post is not sponsored by Golden Spoon. It just so happened that I had a craving earlier today for something cold, sweet, and "somehow" light. What I got was a mix of Belgian chocolate yogurt with cookies and cream and mochi rice cakes as toppings.

I know. It's a weird combination, unlike my previous berry-themed dessert. What I loved about this is that I had three different textures.

IMG_6979

Smooth and creamy, crunchy and crumbling, powdered and sticky. See?

IMG_6980

Also had a varied mix of textures in what I wore: soft knit cotton pullover, somewhat thick cotton-polyester shirt worn as a jacket, denim, and leather. Rolled the sleeves for more structure and since the underside was a shade lighter. The band-aids I needed to safeguard the skin around my ankles while breaking in these Ballys, since I really do not like wearing even hidden socks.

I only now notice that someone else was having fun behind me (You think that's why he was fixing himself in the very first pic?).

Each to his own. This is the country's central business district. Comfort food patches stress like a band-aid.

My latest fix: Electromagnetic Tentacle tees, part II

EM-Tentacle_Tahoooo_03

Wore this the entire day yesterday, from gym to FĂȘte de la Musique. Still not in the mood to post pictures of myself, sorry. Soon. Soon enough.

Think the weather is getting to me. Iceman, you can always grow your hand back. Just blow on your stump.

Superhero Sunday

Finally, I was able to get my hands on this cutout faux leather jacket by Drei Soriano, which I blogged about here: Philippine Fashion Week: Drei Soriano.

The biker jacket came right off the runway. A little big, but I think the fit is still great.

A friend pointed out that the piece reminded him of the X-Men, but I declined to wear it when I watched the latest film. (I actually wore denim on denim, in shorts, but more about that soon.)

I am wearing the jacket with the Thelxinoe necklace from the Hardware collection of my Bosquejo accessories.

Incidentally, the stylist who shot the editorial for Drei's Holiday 2011 lookbook, also borrowed the same necklaces to match the piece. I actually love how leather matches my Hardware accessories, matching edge with edge.

Here is the back, which I think is good enough for Banshee. Notice the zippered sleeves.

Though I think both the jacket and the necklace can be toned down by softer pieces, they look made for each other. As if there were only one way to go.
