All Things Orla

I know I'm all about fall, fall, fall right now and I'm not changing my tune any time soon. BUT! I couldn't help but ooh and ahh over the peek at the Orla Kiely spring collection. These two dress are just too sweet for words. Carrie from WishWishWish was lucky enough to view the collection in person (well, at least cardboard cut-outs of the collection) and if you haven't seen her photos, you should hurry right over to her blog to gawk at all the wonderful perfectly Orla dresses. And then of course there's the photo of Carrie with Leith Clark in a most enviable Orla dress!

I haven't gotten my hands on a copy of Orla Kiely's book yet, but I've only heard great things about it. You can imagine my surprise when Starr told me that my blog is mentioned in the book! Apparently there's section in the book that is dedicated to blogs and their importance in the world of fashion today. Thanks so much to whoever included this blog in the book!

Madras by A.P.C. at Urban Outfitters

If things have seemed a wee bit on the quiet side around these parts for the past week, there’s a good reason for it. Tom and I spent the better part of the week on a road trip to Massachusetts and hanging out with good friends around the Boston area. Usually I’m so excited about our upcoming trips I can’t help but blab about it all over the blog, but after reading about a couple that tweeted about a vacation only to have their house broken into while they were away, I decided that mums the word from now on while we’re traveling. Thus, you’ll be learning about our adventures in hindsight from here on out. Not that there’s too much to learn about this trip… it was all hanging out by the pool, eating tons of amazing veggie food, playing with adorable pets and just general relaxing. We also gave the camera a bit of a rest. The only photos we came home with were ones of Potato and Raisin, our friends’ pugs! We’re home now and things will be getting back to normal with lots of shop updates and some outfit photos now that we’re getting a little hint of fall in the air.

In other news, a little birdie told me that one of my (and probably yours) favorite collections will soon be available at Urban Outfitters as of the 20th; Madras by A.P.C. I’m pretty excited about seeing exactly what pieces will be carried.

Vain & Vapid

This is my favorite dress in the new Vain & Vapid spring collection! I love the color, the loose fit and the cute ruffle around the hips. There are lots of other lovely pieces to choose from as well...

Sally Scott S/S 2010

I have to admit that as much as I liked Sally Scott's A/W collection and their Harry Potter-esque moving picture lookbook, I had kind of forgotten about this label until I saw a post about their S/S collection on the Nadinoo blog. I think being from Japan and completely inaccessible in the States (as far as I can tell) had something to do with that.

I'm not as crazy about the lookbook this time around. I think I would prefer to see these light, spring pieces outdoors. I know the whole "pretty girl in a pretty dress in a pretty field" photos are commonplace these days and perhaps a bit repetitive but it just seems like these dresses deserve better than being locked in some suburban looking home! From what I gather (there's not too much English on the site), the above photos and the accompanying video feature some of the spring pieces while the individual product shots are the newer summer pieces? I'm just assuming this since none of the dresses in the video are the ones pictured for sale on the site and vice versa. Any Japanese readers are welcome to clear this up for me. ;)

Anyhoo... translation issues aside, I'm really loving the summer (?) stuff! Wearing simple summer dresses with flats and a tote bag sounds wonderful right now. That straw bag with the embroidered birds reminds me of the hex signs you see on Amish barns around Lancaster County!

I discovered Masscob via Siri's blog and fell for their dreamy video right away. I especially like the clack of the old typewriter that plays along with the music. Oh, and the clothes aren't so bad either! ;)

twenty-seven names

If there are any gaps in my spring wardrobe, they come in the form of navy and white polka dots (can't get enough of those right now) and a little white dress. It seems that twenty-seven names has the answer to both of those.



I especially like the little white dresses. That's a piece of my wardrobe that has eluded me for some time now. Every one I find ends up making me feel a bit too precious, if you know what I mean. I don't know... wearing all white always makes me feel a bit conspicuous. That and I know it won't be long before I've spilled something all down the front. But somehow I think I could make an exception for one of these.

It's quite late (early?) and I'm not really sure what I'm still doing awake. The whole time change thing always throws me off a bit for a few days. My late night boredom led me to the Lyell site where I discover they'd posted a few looks from the early spring collection. I know I go on and on about Lyell but I really don't think they've ever made a piece or posted a photo that I didn't instantly love.

I'd love to say that I stayed home and worked on a shop update all day like I'd planned, but the truth is the sun was shining, the air was warm and Tom was home from work on spring break. Instead of staying inside and working we headed out on a walk around town and to several of our favorite spots. We stopped in Mommalicious to look at vintage goodies, walked along gallery row and into a cute antique shop. I picked up a couple of things for the Etsy shop that I'll be listing next week with all the spring pieces I've been hoarding all winter. One is a really cute pale yellow Peter Pan collar blouse that sort of reminds me of the one in the spring Nadinoo collection. I wish it fit me but no such luck, so it will have to go to one of you lucky gals.

Speaking of Nadinoo, I've been thoroughly enjoying all of the lookbook shots from the new spring collection. Such sweet blouses and dresses and a great pair of high waisted shorts! My favorite has to be the Fleur's Petal dress. The art nouveau print is just killin' me!

BBW Spring/Summer 10

I'm loving the simple black/white/blue color pallet and the stripes are classy and timeless. Bear with me here, while I alternate between posting about the two feet of snow outside on my doorstep and the pretty spring looks I'm dreaming about once the weather warms up. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually enjoying the wintery weather right now in some ways. It's so pretty outside and I don't have anywhere I need to go so being stuck inside with a little work to do and good food to eat is not such a bad thing. But my mind can't help but wander to warmers days...

One thing I always look forward to at the beginning of each season is flipping through the Orla Kiely lookbook. It makes me feel a bit like Christmas morning, albeit a Christmas morning where I don't get to keep any of the present. Still, nobody makes me want to wear prints more than Orla and the styling gets me every time. For spring I'm loving the color palette of rusty browns, navy blue and sea green. And the sunglasses, oh the sunglasses! I don't remember the last time I bought a new pair. I've been wearing the same aviators from H&M all winter long. I adore those 40s style cream ones paired with the navy looks. I'm also putting light, lacy socks to wear with oxfords on my list of must-tries.

For fall it was 60s Girl Scouts and now it's this sort of creepy-living-in-a-doll-house sort of vibe mixed with just a smidge of good ol' Americana (they say it's Parisian, and I suppose it is, but the stripes and chambray just seem more American to me - maybe it's the red, white and blue of the photos?). I especially love those high waisted shorts. I think this summer might be all about the shorts. We'll see. I would also take that striped dress in about a hot second.

I see a bit of sailor inspiration going on here as well. I've thrifted a few spring-like sailory pieces lately but they've all been thrown into a bag marked "spring" and put away for now. It'll be so much fun opening up that bag once the weather warms up. I always forget half of what I throw in there and opening it is a little bit like Christmas morning.

It's enough work keeping up with four seasons' worth of fashion so when it comes to things like "cruise collections" and "pre-fall" I really can't seem to make room in my head for it. Those collections usually go right in one ear and out the other, so to speak. Right now I'm even having a hard time concentrating on all of the SS10 collections I've seen sneaking onto blogs. But... this one's different! It's the Rachel Antonoff collection and I have to say this is the first one I've seen that's gotten me really excited for warmer weather. Although really I think part of the reason I like it so much is because I can see wearing those black lacy dresses right now. Spring clothes I don't have to wait until spring to wear... Yay!

Imagine spending your days having ballet lessons with Sarah Sophie Flickr, dreaming up collections inspired by ballerinas and private detectives and planning a fashion show disguised as a stage play... or was it a stage play disguised as a fashion show? Hmmm.
